Finding a cover you like is only half of the process.
A good result begins with understanding the shape and dimensions of your furniture.
Before Measuring
You will need:
- A flexible measuring tape
- Your sofa fully assembled
- A place to record your measurements
Measure the furniture itself rather than estimating based on how many people it seats.
Terms such as armchair, loveseat, two-seater, three-seater, and four-seater can describe very different dimensions depending on the manufacturer.
Width
Measure the sofa from its furthest left point to its furthest right point.
If the arms extend beyond the seat area, include them where required by the product's fitting instructions.
Seat Area
Measure the usable seating area separately when relevant.
This can be particularly important for covers designed for individual cushions or seating sections.
Depth
Measure from the front of the relevant seating area toward the back.
For certain products, the overall furniture depth and actual seat depth may be different measurements.
Back
Measure the height and width of the back section where relevant.
Sofas with unusually high, curved, reclining, or heavily padded backs may require additional consideration.
Armrests
Armrests can dramatically affect fit.
Wide square arms, narrow arms, curved arms, and rolled arms create very different furniture profiles.
Compare your sofa's construction with the product images and specifications before ordering.
Sectional Furniture
Treat each independent section as its own furniture component when the product requires separate pieces.
Do not automatically use the combined width of an entire sectional unless the product instructions specifically request it.
